America is the access highway. You can get access to anything on the internet. Literally. Anything. From Netflix to HBOGO to Pandora to YouTube to millions of other websites, you can find any movie, television show, music video, and whatever else your heart dreams up. You can pay for it or pirate it, but you'll always be able to find it. America doesn't have blocks on the internet from the government like some countries do.
So, imagine my surprise when I got to Thailand and got this error message when I logged onto Netflix.
Or, HBOGO and got this message.
Or, Pandora and got this message.
Or, Hulu and got this message.
I never thought about whether or not I'd have unlimited access to the internet in Thailand. My addiction to American TV shows came to a screeching halt once I moved. My daily, 8-hour addiction to Pandora is no longer existent. I can still get music on iTunes. But, the thought of buying music is nonsense since I grew up in the Napster days.
Everything is blocked in Thailand. EVERYTHING. Like, what the actual f*ck am I supposed to do when I need my music, television, and movie fix?
BUT... Not all hope is lost. By some miracle, I was introduced to "Hola." Some techie wizard invented a VPN that allows you to access certain websites outside the states. So, guess what I can get? NETFLIX!
I can't get anything else, which is a sad day for my Pandora and HBO needs. But, "Netflix and Chill" just got a whole new meaning.
For those who use my Netflix account in the states (you know who you are), watch out. If I can't get on because too many shows are running at once, the password is getting changed immediately.
Now, leave me alone. It's time to binge watch "Making a Murderer."
