America is the greatest country in the world. Yes, I'm biased. Yes, I'm patriotic. Yes, there are problems with America just like with anywhere else in the world. But, I love it. Always have; always will. So, of course I'm going to get homesick. That happens anytime I travel... Whether it was for an overnight trip for work back in the day or for weeks at a time to another country.
I miss my pups, family, friends, food, the most comfortable bed in the world, and countless other things. I had a solid set-up in the states: baller job, nice house, big car, great family, amazing friends - THE WORKS. I weighed the pros and cons heavily before making my move. I didn't decide to move to Thailand all willy nilly. I knew what I'd be missing before I left... until now.
Solid haircuts, mom.
My family is pretty small. I've got a few first cousins here and there, but I've never had any nieces or nephews. Well, guess what... My one and only sister is pregnant! That's right, I'm allowed to start telling people, so CONGRATULATIONS are in order!!! For the first time in my life, I'm going to miss something I know nothing about: being an aunt.
This is an incredibly happy time for my family... that I won't be a part of. All the baby showers, mood swings, weird food cravings, morning sickness, late-night runs for fast food, and whatever else happens when you're preggo, which is also something I know nothing about (nor do I intend to find out).
Can't wait to do this to my future niece / nephew.
So, yeah. I'm homesick. Not to a point where I'm planning to move back anytime soon (sorry, sis!). But, I clearly have to visit sooner than I thought... Even if a trip to America is going to interfere with some upcoming New Zealand snowboarding plans. But, hey, you're only a first-time Aunt once in your life, right?
CONGRATULATIONS, DOPEY! I LOVE YOU and can't wait to be cool Aunt Phoebe!
See you in October, America.
